Excelsior Erosion Control Blankets

An erosion control blanket (ECB) is a temporary degradable, rolled erosion control product that reduces soil erosion and assists in the establishment and growth of vegetation. ECBs also known as soil retention blankets, are manufactured by many companies and are composed primarily of processed, natural organic materials that are woven, glued, or structurally bound together with natural fiber netting or mesh on one or both sides.

Excelsior Blankets


Excelsior erosion control blankets are among the many types of rolled erosion control blankets (RECPs) available from Hanes Geo Components. They provide temporary protection for seed and soil from the erosive forces of wind and rain. Wood "excelsior" fibers provide water absorption properties and a tough, biodegradable matrix for vegetation establishment of newly seeded slopes and channels. "Single net excelsior" blankets, netting stitched to the topside of excelsior fibers, are cost-effective for many applications. "Double net excelsior" blankets, netting stitched to both the top and bottom sides of the excelsior fibers, provide additional protection. Heavier-duty excelsior blankets, utilizing more fibers and stronger nettings, provide increased resistance to erosion and longer effectiveness (up to three years). The nettings and stitching are typically made from synthetic materials; however, excelsior blankets are also available with biodegradable nettings and stitching for environmentally sensitive applications.

Benefits: Holds seed and soil in place until vegetation is established. Effective for slopes, embankments and small channels.
